Frequently Occurred Issues and Solutions for BOPP Holographic Film Embossing

Issue 1:  After emboss, film gloss lessens or not satisfactory.

Solution: Raise the pre-heating temperature, or increase embossing pressure.


Issue 2: Film whitens after embossing.

Solution: Decrease pre-heating temperature.


Issue 3:  Over-Shrinkage at transverse direction after embossing.

Solution: Adjust down the pre-heating temperature or embossing pressure at condition that satisfactory hologram effect is secured.


Issue 4: Weak adhesion with Aluminium layer, or weak lamination bonding strength with paper.

Analysis: 1. Weak corona treatment level; 2. Corona treatment generating power is not sufficient, or corona dyne over-attenuated before Aluminizing or lamination; 3. Film surface is contaminated by oil or fat.

Solution: 1. Increase corona treatment generating power; 2. Adjust the gap between electrodes to make sure even and overall corona treatment on film; 3. Make sure the Corona treating machines is in good working condition; 4. The film should be stored in a cool and dry place after corona treatment, and shorten storage hours before further process to avoid corona attenuation; 5. Protect film out of contamination of oil or other dirty materials.


Issue 5: Loosing-film-edges after embossing or metalizing.

Analysis: 1. Pre-heating roller temperature is not even or stable; 2. Rollers of the embossing machine are not paralleled; 3. Film is winded too tight.

Solution: 1. Eliminate fault on pre-heating roller and make sure heat is evenly and stably spread on film; 2. Adjust and make sure the embossing roller and conveying rollers are parallel to each other; 3. Adjust slitting tensile at winding and unwinding to get proper rolled up film rolls.


Issue 6: Film surface is scratched after embossing.

Solution: Measure on film the length between two scratched spots, check on roller for barrier to smooth running, or check for the foreign matters or wounds on roller surface that matches such scratch circle length


Issue 7: Surface tension on Alluminate surface attenuates too fast after metalizing.

Analysis: Corona dyne level is too high after embossing, which accelerates surface activity on the Aluminum layer and produces Alumina, consequently leads to attenuation of surface tension.

Solution: Strictly control the dyne level between 36 and 38 dyne while corona treating the film, at condition that satisfies adhesion requirement for metalizing.

 

Issue8:  Roots-like wrinkles appear after metalizing.

Analysis: Static marks formed on surface of the film due to electro-discharge at corona treating process after embossing.

Solution: Install static elimination devices at different locations of the embossing machine. Increase humidity level of the embossing process to avoid static electricity due to dry environment.
